Sometimes, Kale was too curious for his own good. In this case it meant that he went looking for information on one "Anton Rand". Tobias had mentioned him several times. Especially in reference to him. Said that they were rather alike.

Reading up on him, Kale did have to admit, that yes, they were eerily alike. Their histories were different. But they both had some similar career choices (except for the whole Jedi Hunter thing, though Kale had the feeling that if he did ever fall, like Trever had, he would probably be good at it).

The information was a bit scarce.

And then he got to the bit of Anton being in love with the Exile. And the Exile apparently maybe returning his feelings.

"Well, shit," he muttered to himself. They were alike.

Tobias is rather suddenly just there. How did a cripple with a cane learn to be so freakishly quiet, anyway (aside from almost-maxing out his stealth skill)?

"And what are we cursing about?" He smiles a tad.

And Kale jumps, rather startled. "Where did you come from?" he asked, fingers flying across the keyboard to shut down what he had been looking at.

Tobias shrugs. "Here and there," he replies vaguely. He's good at vague. "Heard you curse, wondered what it was about." He peeks toward the screen, probably too late to read the text on it.

Oh yes. Quite too late. Kale is quick with his fingers. "Oh, just... nothing."

His lips twitch slightly. "I didn't know you cursed over nothing."

Quick smile, "Well, no. Of course not. But it's nothing you need to be concerned about."

Another slight lip-twitch. "Well, if you say so..." Poor guy doesn't have a clue.

No, he doesn't. But... Kale taps his fingers against his leg for a moment before asking, "You've compared me to this Rand person before, who was he exactly?"

"Atton?" Tobias shrugs a little. "He was my friend. He'd fought in the wars and joined Revan's side when he turned. Took up as a Jedi hunter until he learned he was Force sensitive, then fled and hid out of fear. He'd done some bad things but he was a good man."

"That doesn't sound like me at all," he says, leaning back and stretching out his legs.

"Does this mean you aren't my friend?" he teases lightly. Then he shrugs. "It's not so much your history as they way you and he act that's similar. He had his sweet moments and his sarcastic moments - the latter more than the former. He... heh, he was always a scoundrel and an unabashed flirt."

Hrmm... that does track with what he's read so far. "Why thank you. I think."

"It's a good thing. For all of his seedy ways, he was still a good man at heart. Even if he had a slight anger problem."

Kale nods and then jerks his thumb to the computer terminal. "I was looking him up. Out of curiosity."

Tobias nods in understanding. So that's what the cursing was about. "Find out anything interesting?"

"He was in love with you? Or at least the female you?" He watches Tobias' face intently as he says this.

He doesn't seem surprised by that statement. In fact, he nods. "The game isn't a completely faithful reproduction of my life, but yes. He was."

"He was in love with you?" Best to get things straight, yes.

Straight. A hah hah hah.

"He was in love with me, yes."

"And you?"

"He was my friend," he replies vaguely. But he shakes his head lightly and scratches the back of his neck. "I might have been in love with him, yes. But we never admitted it to each other."

And he'd worried that their Force Bond had just confused their feelings for each other, but he'd desperately wanted to deny that possibility.

"Hrmm..." he taps his fingers again against his leg as if trying to think of a proper way to phrase his question. "So... if you haven't... jumped any of your other padawans...why me?"

"As I recall, you jumped me," he murmurs amusedly. More seriously he says, "I don't know. Maybe I knew I would have to leave and didn't want them being heartbroken over me.

"Maybe I actually admitted to myself how I felt about you and it seemed like a logical step."

For a brief moment there's a worried look on Kale's face at the mention of leaving. A very desperate worried look. But he covers it quickly, putting a teasing smile back on his face.

"I only jumped you, because you were being slow about it."

While his stealth may not be maxed out, Tobias's awareness certainly is, and he catches that look. But he won't bring it up right now. He grins.

"Oh, just because you're impatient doesn't mean I'm being slow."
